**In short:** A Unique Entity Number (UEN) is the standard identification number that every entity registered in Singapore — companies, businesses, LLPs, societies and others — receives. It is issued when the entity is registered and is used for all transactions with government agencies.

## What does a UEN look like?

A UEN is a unique alphanumeric identifier. For companies incorporated with ACRA it is typically based on the year of incorporation plus a running number and a check letter (for example, a 9- or 10-character code). Businesses registered before the UEN system may retain their former registration number as their UEN.

## What is the UEN used for?

The UEN replaces the multiple identification numbers an entity previously needed across government agencies. It is used when filing with ACRA and IRAS, applying for licences, opening corporate bank accounts, and transacting with other government services. It is the entity’s single, permanent identity for its lifetime.
